Taking Back Our Neighborhoods- Mitchell Avenue drainage

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

In this an email dated November 27th, Lorinda Swick told WLBT about the standing water along the street outside her Mitchell Avenue residence. She has rented the property since October 5th.

In part, she said, "I have called City services about 10 times about this issue. I have been given a run around from wrong work order/case numbers to being told to ask for Mr. Jones the supervisor, Mr. Williams, and the superintendent, Mr. Hagart.

She attached a picture, stating, "Standing water like this every time it rains is a nuisance and hazard especially in warmer temps and humidity as it attracts mosquitos. Swick wrote, "I also called City Services back at the above number after I left the 3 On Your Side voicemail to let them know I have contacted the station about this problem and sent pictures."

The next day, Swick sent us this picture showing city workers in front of her house. In her email, she said, "at 7:45 am this morning, I received a call from Mr. Jones, the Supervisor, who said he was sending his crew out. They were at my house at 8:45am. The storm drain was extremely clogged; they have begun the clean-up and unclogging process. Thank you for your community services! Have a Merry Christmas, signed Lorinda Swick.

The Mitchell Avenue now is drain all clear; ready for the next heavy rain.
