Jackson Police have taken a 17-year-old male into custody after a lengthy standoff at an apartment complex on Watkins Drive.
According to JPD, officers were called to the scene of the Northwood Village apartments shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. Police say the teen barricaded himself inside Unit 6 of the complex.
Officers have not released the name of the male teen, but do confirm he attempted to set fire to the apartment unit, causing emergency calls to come in from other residents of the complex.
SWAT aided the Jackson Police Department with gaining access to Unit 6 and taking the teen into custody. SWAT officials say 10 tear gas bombs were used to pull the male out of the apartment.
The teen was transported to a local hospital by ambulance, but police say he has no apparent injuries. Police have not said what, if any, charges the teen will face in the incident. It is not clear at this time if the 17-year-old was a resident of the Northwood Village apartments or if he was visiting an occupant of the complex.
