Brookhaven's The Daily Leader no longer family owned

Posted: Updated:
BROOKHAVEN, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Brookhaven's newspaper The Daily Leader has been sold to a national company.

The paper was recently sold to Boone Newspapers, which owns 44 other newspapers in the U.S., including The Natchez Democrat.  The Prentiss Headlight was also part of the recent purchase.

Most of the company's papers are in similar sized communities to Brookhaven.

The Daily Leader has 40 employees and 25 contract workers who distribute the paper.

The Jacobs family had owned the paper since 1958. Bill Jacobs says it wasn't just a financial decision to sell.

"Oh, it was a mixture of things, from a very good offer from the Boone Papers, to timing of my own personal means," Jacobs said.
