SWAT team called to Northwest Jackson apartment

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An apartment complex is put on lock down for hours while police searched for a burglar.

The Hinds-Jackson SWAT Team blocked off Culley Drive while eight units at Cullywood Apartments were searched.

Police say about 10 a.m. Saturday morning a renter heard someone in his attic space, then the ceiling in his daughters room collapsed.

The renter fired two shots into the attic, but no one was ever found.

Later about 5 p.m. at another apartment, a lady unlocked her door only to have it slammed in her face twice and locked again two different times. She called Jackson Police.

Officers found holes in her ceiling, but no one inside the unit, that's when SWAT was called out and the three hour search began.

"The persons that had actually attempted to break in had an opportunity to escape. So, they may have gone out through one of those balcony doors. Again, we found several of those unlocked, but for safety we had to go in and check all eight apartments that's on the second level," said JPD Deputy Chief Eric Wall.

No arrests have been made and police continue to search for the vanishing burglar.
