The High School Spirit Showdown is on! Murrah and Madison Central High Schools will compete in an ongoing web poll. The voting is scheduled to end Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. The FOX 40 Morning News team will visit both Murrah and Madison High schools next week to see which school will win the High School Spirit Showdown.
The Fox40 news team will visit with Murrah High on Dec. 18 and Madison Central on December 19.
Rated one of the best high schools by US News, Murrah High sits in the center of the Jackson metro area preparing its students for the national academic stage. The school was founded by Bishop William Belton Murrah (1852-1925) of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, who would also go on to found Millsaps College also known as the Ivy League College of the South. With an elite faculty and staff dedicated to the success of each student, it's no wonder several of its alumni have gone on to attend some of the top Universities in and around the Country. Murrah High School boost the Base Pair Program which is a mentoring program. The program has been successful in preparing its alumni for Princeton, Yale, Harvard and other top rated Universities. We will also meet with the JROTC director headed by Lt. Col. Baker and watch as some young men and women exhibit military skill and showmanship.
One of the largest high schools in the state, and recognized as one of the "Top Ten Best High Schools in America" by Redbook magazine, Madison Central High School has received the highest level of academic excellence a public school can receive, and is consistently ranked at national levels alongside private schools in and out of state. While a leader in state academic competitions, the students still find the time to engage in extracurricular activities, which has bolstered their stance in the sports community. The Jaguars, best known for their hunting style, dominate the wildlife and judging by the precedence left by Madison Central students, the academic community here and abroad. The Jaguars will allow the FOX 40 news crew to showcase their Air Force ROTC program, recognize a stand out teacher and will also allow us get to know their students.
