A rare and momentous celebration on 12-12-2012 as a Jackson woman celebrated her 113th birthday. Lillian Irby was born December 12th, 1899 in Crystal Springs.
"Nana" as she is called was surprised Wednesday with a party at Baptist Adult Day Health Services in Clinton.
She attends the center six days a week.
The Mississippi House of Representatives recognized her milestone.
The Jackson resident moved to Chicago at an early age and returned to Mississippi when her husband died in 1988.
The centenarian has one daughter two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
"I'm a Christian. I always prayed and said my prayers and the Lord heard me. So I'm living today, and I don't have no aches and no pain, no rubs, take no pills. Health is good. Ain't that a good thing? Got a good appetite," said Lillian Irby.
"It's a blessing to have her. A lot of people have asked what does she do to still be here. She doesn't do anything. It's the man up above. It's not her time to go," said Lynn Winston the granddaughter with whom Irby lives in Jackson.
The Copiah county native remains active exercising, socializing with friends and singing at the center.
