6th grader takes gun to school, threats made at another

EUCLID, OH (WOIO) -

Today 19 Action News received a tip that a 6th grader took a loaded gun into a local middle school.

After speaking with the Euclid Schools Superintendent Keith Bell, it was confirmed that the tip was accurate.

On Thursday, December 13, 2012 at approximately 11:30 a.m. a student was caught with marijuana in his possession. The student then decided to inform the school's security guards that another student had a gun in his book bag, so they checked it out.  Security reported that they searched the accused student's locker and they did indeed find a loaded gun and a bag of marijuana as well.

The superintendent, Keith Bell told 19 Action News that the student body was never in harm's way and that the students would be disciplined, although he didn't say how severely.

The Euclid Police Detective Unit was not available to confirm any more details at this time.

Euclid officials aren't the only ones dealing with school safety issues...in North Ridgeville an alert went out to all parents.

Below is the transcript of the AlertNow message sent to parents on Dec. 12th from North Ridgeville City Schools:

"Good afternoon.  This is Patricia Bahr, Principal of North Ridgeville High School.  This message is to inform you that we have received information of general threats concerning the high school.  I want to assure you that we have been working very closely with the North Ridgeville Police Department and we will continue to follow up on any specific threats that would threaten the safety of our students and staff.  You can be assured that the safety of your children and our staff is most important to us.  Therefore, heightened security measures have been implemented and will be added as needed in the future.  We will maintain instruction at our school with these added security measures so that your children will feel safe and can continue to focus on learning."
