Police: Boy lied about attempted abduction because he was late for school

GARFIELD HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

Police now say the 13-year-old boy who said he fought off a would-be abductor on his way to school lied about the incident.

19 Action News has learned the boy lied because he was late for school.

The boy claimed a man driving a minivan jumped out and tried to grab him. The boy told police he fought the man off and broke his glasses.

The boy later admitted to police he made the entire story up.

The case has been referred to the Prosecutor's Office for possible charges against the boy.
