Patients are being discharged from the hospital faster now compared to years past and it doesn't seem to be impacting their long-term health.
A new study in the Annals of Internal Medicine looks at the medical records of more than four million patients hospitalized between 1997 and 2010.
They found hospital length of stay decreased twenty-seven percent, and readmission and death rates also dropped.
Experts say better coordination between hospitals and outpatient services is helping patients stay healthy after they leave the hospital.
Patients who were discharged too early faced an increased risk for readmission.
The study was published in the Annals of Internal Medicine and conducted at the Iowa City VA Medical Center.
