An investigation that began as a house fire call on last month has now turned to a homicide investigation concerning a body that was discovered in a burned-out home. After nearly two weeks, however, the victim has not been positively identified.
Firefighters received the call just before 4:15 p.m. on Dec. 23 in regards to a fire at 455 Grandview Circle.
According to Assistant Fire Chief R.D. Simpson, it did not take long for firefighters to bring the blaze under control. Emergency crews, however, remained on the scene for quite a while to make sure it was fully extinguished.
Investigators have not released whether the house was occupied or abandoned, but Simpson says one fatality has been confirmed.
Five days after the fire, Officer Green with Jackson Police Department confirms detectives now consider the fatality a homicide and have started an investigation. The victim's name has not yet been released.
Police say the man was fatally shot, but investigators have not released information concerning a suspect in the case. Although detectives have an idea as to who the victim is, they are waiting on medical and dental records to positively identify him before releasing a name.
