JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Often times, Jackson's homeless have no where to go to celebrate the holidays.
Sunday Omega Ministries and Healing place hosted Christmas in the Park at Poindexter Park.
Hundreds help gather gifts of clothing and hygiene products for the city's homeless, along with pillows and blankets.
Many volunteered to serve a warm meal or sing Christmas Carols.
Organizers and community leaders say giving back helps the entire community.
"This is the real true meaning of Christmas, being on the giving end to those that have fallen on hard times in this scrooge like economy; to make sure they can have some hope and have a good Christmas as well," said Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis.
Organizations and churches also pitched in to make it a special day.
