Severe Weather Possible for Christmas Day

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Clouds will increase tonight ahead of a strong cold front moving in from Texas. While chances for rain are in the forecast this evening, the storms should hold off until Christmas Day.

Computer models continue to hint at a significant risk for severe weather beginning around 8am for southwest Mississippi and spreading across central and north Mississippi through 8pm.

All modes of severe weather are possible including strong tornadoes (EF2 or stronger), hail to the size of quarters, heavy rain (1"-2") and winds strong enough to bring down trees, powerlines and cause damage.Storms should be tapering off after 8pm as the system pushes east.

With tomorrow's elevated risk, it is absolutely necessary to be weather aware at all times.

We also strongly urge you to download our First Alert Weather App. There, you can find our video forecasts and interactive radar and warnings. You also need to have a weather radio on and programmed.

There is plenty of time now to make a plan for tomorrow. Know where to go if and when a tornado warning is issued for your area. If you will have guests over, make sure they are aware too. Stay tuned to www.msnewsnow.com/weather and our Facebook page for the latest updates.
