LAWRENCE COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Some of the worst storm damage on Christmas Day was from a possible tornado in Lawrence County. Seven people were injured and 19 homes destroyed just west of Monticello.

The storm came out of the west, heading east northeast, and cut a path of devastation along Highway 184 about a half a mile west of the Monticello city limits. Fifteen homes suffered major damage, according to Lawrence County Sheriff Joel Thames.

Fifty-six-year-old Janice Banks, her daughter, 37-year-old Nicole Graves,  her son in law, 37-year-old Jarvese Graves, and her grandchild, 10 year old Javari Graves, all survived in their wrecked mobile home.

"I heard my daughter say, take cover in the laundry room, and we went in the laundry room and tried to hover over each other, and hold each other and by the grace of god, we are still here," said Banks. "And I had a family member come up and say this is not a Merry Christmas, and I said yes it is, and I said I am saying Merry Christmas, and I say I am here and I say it is a Merry Christmas."

The VIP Hand Car Wash and Detail Shop, on Highway 184, was also destroyed, and two other mobile homes and two travel trailers where a total of five people survived.

This is why the National Weather Service tells you to get out of a mobile home when there is a tornado coming.
