Sitting up improves baby's learning pattern

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Helping young babies sit up may accelerate the learning process.

A new study out of Texas A-and-M University looked at the learning patterns of five-and-a-half and six-and-a-half month olds.

An advantage the older babies had is they can sit up to reach for and touch objects.

Researchers found when the five month olds were given support to help them sit up, they demonstrated similar learning patterns as the older babies.

They say babies who are not encouraged to sit up may miss out on opportunities to learn.
