JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

We've all probably heard there's a benefit to eating smaller, more frequent meals.

One cancer prevention researcher has been studying the diet, because weight gain can increase cancer risk.

Dr. Graham Colditz has found that eating more meals tends to result in more intake of calories.

He says eating the same amount of calories but just spreading them out into smaller portions doesn't impact weight, but more studies are needed.

Colditz says eating more frequent meals will only help with weight loss if you cut your calories.
