JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Jackson man convicted for a machete attack on his child's mother has filed an appeal with the Mississippi Supreme Court.

Jermaine Reed was convicted in Hinds County back in 2011 for aggravated assault in the 2008 attack on his ex-girlfriend Andrea Taylor.

Circuit Judge Bill Gowan agreed to a prosecution motion to amend Reed's indictment to certify him as a habitual offender because he had at least two previous convictions.

Reed was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
