JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The first armed robbery of 2013 has Jackson Police searching for a suspect after he reportedly walked into a convenience store in the middle of the day and threatened to have a gun before leaving with the store's cash.

Officer Colendula Green with JPD says a black male walked into the Sprint Mart at 4775 Clinton Boulevard just before noon Wednesday morning. The robber made his way to the back of the store and opened the door to the store office.

Although the store employee says he did not see a firearm, the suspect threatened the clerk saying he had a gun and wanted cash. The employee told investigators that he gave the suspect money and the man then fled the store.

Officer Green says the store does have surveillance video cameras and detectives are currently reviewing the film to try to identify a suspect. She adds the robber was wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses and got away with an undisclosed about of cash.
