Blues and running shoes; one day till Mississippi Blues Marathon

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

It's time to lace up your running shoes and get ready to listen to some Mississippi blues. The sixth annual Mississippi Blues Marathon kicks off at 7:00 A.M. Saturday in downtown Jackson.

This year's sold out race includes 3,000 participants, representing 11 countries and 47 states. In preparation for the race, marathoners are picking up registration materials at the "Blues Marathon Expo" at the Jackson Convention Complex until 7:00 P.M. Friday. The general public can also stop by the expo and shop from various vendors selling running gear.

Race Director John Noblin said this year's course is a bit of a test with lots of hills.

"People do consider it a challenge, people around here are on me year-round about why we made the course so hard, but really the idea from the very first year was we said if we can get people into Jackson from all over the country for one day what would you want to show them, so basically we made it a tour of sites of Jackson and when you do that you have to go over some hills," said Noblin.

All proceeds from the marathon benefit the Mississippi Blues Commission's, "Musician's Benevolence Fund."
