Heavy rainfall causes a Northeast Jackson street to flood often

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Saturday's rain fall coupled with a broken water main stranded some Jackson residents in their homes.

3 On Your Side learned Wayneland Drive floods almost every time a steady rain storm rolls through, according to residents.

A number of drivers braved the murky waters, while others turned around.

The water could be seen splashing into people's front yard and drive ways. After contacting the city several times for the last eight months, one homeowner called WLBT.

Bubbling water could be seen where the water main broke.

"Which wouldn't be that bad of an issue if it wasn't for the fact that storm drains are stopped up. So all the water doesn't have any place to go. It's just sitting right there in the middle of the road," said Johnny Rowland, who's tired of the flooding streets.

Residents say it only takes about half an hour for the street to fill with water during a heavy rain, but much long for it to recede.
