Norwood announces bid for District 28 Senate seat

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A former Jackson school board member has announced plans to run for State Senate in the upcoming special election.

Sollie Norwood will run for the District 28 Senate seat, left vacant by the death of Senator Alice Harden on Dec. 6. The Jackson resident has lived in the district for 42 years and is a Jackson State University graduate.

Norwood has worked in education at JSU and served as a division director with the Mississippi Department of Human Services.

Harden's niece Tamarra Grace Butler and Cindy Ayers Elliot are also in the race.

The special election will be held Feb. 5.
