Despite some promising earlier research a new study finds Vitamin D supplements do not ease painful knees.
Researchers at Tufts Medical Center in Boston followed more than one hundred patients with knee osteoarthritis.
Some were given a daily 2000-international unit dose of Vitamin D. Others were given a placebo.
After two years, there were no significant differences in knee pain or loss of cartilage associated with osteoarthritis.
This study is published in the January 9 issue of JAMA.
