Mental evaluation ordered for Palisades standoff suspect

BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Twenty-seven-year-old Josh Bobo has been denied bond and will have to undergo a mental evaluation. Last Saturday, Bobo threatened law enforcement officers and his family with a high powered rifle in the Palisades subdivision of Rankin County.

He eventually surrendered to his grandmother after a standoff that lasted more than four hours.

"You endangered not only your own parents, law enforcement, and a quiet community trying to mind their own business on a Saturday morning, and I cannot consider bond until I am sure there is some way to make sure you are not going to do that again," Rankin County Judge Kent McDaniel told Bobo.  "I can just tell both of ya'll ahead of time that he is not going to be allowed to return to that community. As a condition of bond he is going to have to find some other place to live."

Bobo faces a preliminary hearing on January 22nd.
