Jackson City Council meets at Millsaps

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

For the first time the Jackson City Council met for their bi-weekly meeting outside City Hall Tuesday morning.  Council members were treated to a change in scenery as Millsaps College hosted the governing body for their January meeting.

Millsaps officials said it was an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to observe the Capital City's leaders in action. Council President Tony Yarber told us why it was a good opportunity for them.

"We always want a more educated citizenry and educated electorate, and for people who are sitting in the audience it just gives them a bird's eye view of what it takes to make the city move," Yarber said.

The meeting ties in with a Millsaps campaign called, "Across the Street and Around the Globe: Partnerships and Influence at Millsaps College".  The campaign emphasizes community engagement.
