Hinds County District 2 Supervisor Doug Anderson recently announced his resignation after experiencing health issues. Then a few weeks later he rescinds his resignation because other supervisors indicated they were going to appoint Gil Sturgis.
Anderson objected to Sturgis being appointed while not actually living in District 2. I have to agree with Supervisor Anderson. The people of District 2 certainly deserve a representative that at the least lives in their district.
Counties have designated districts for a reason and to appoint someone outside of District 2 would leave those residents without a common voice. I am sure that there are those who are qualified and willing to serve until a special election can be held.
