I-20 wrecks clear, traffic returns to normal

HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The crashes that stalled traffic on Interstate 20 Friday morning have been cleared. East and westbound lanes were affected in Hinds County and drivers were asked to use an alternate route if possible.

According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the outside, eastbound lane of I-20 just before the Gallatin Street exit, was closed after an accident occurred at 7:15 a.m.

MDOT reports the scene was cleared by 8:30 a.m., but drivers were cautioned to avoid the area until police cleared all debris.

It is unclear at this time how many cars or victims are involved in this crash.

A second I-20 crash just before the Ellis Avenue exit in Hinds County had westbound traffic at a near standstill. The two left lanes were blocked.

MDOT reports the Ellis Avenue accident happened around 7:30 a.m. and officials worked to clear the scene by 8:30 a.m. Emergency crews were on scene, but it is not clear how many victims were treated in this crash.
