Hazlehurst Police Officer killed in accident

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An off duty Hazlehurst Police Officer was killed in a one car accident in Jackson shortly after midnight Sunday morning.

According to JPD Officer Colendula Green, Christopher Washington, 27, was traveling on I-55 near the Savannah Exit when the Toyota Camry he was driving struck a metal light pole.

Officer Washington was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Officer Green.

The accident is under investigation.
