JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

As temperatures continue to drop in central Mississippi, the need for coats will continue to rise.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. is participating in the National Pan-Hellenic Council's "Warm Coat and Warm Hearts Drive."

As of Sunday evening, 75 jackets had been collected.

New and lightly used coats, for men and women of all ages, are being collected this week.

Fraternity members are hoping their large numbers will result in a big response.

"With the National Pan-Hellenic Council having roughly 1.6 million members, we thought it would be really go to springboard this effort here in Jackson, Mississippi and at the same time give back to the community which we come from," said Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity member Floyd Williams Jr.

The coats collected here will be delivered to Burlington Coat Factory next week  and will be given to needy Jackson residents.

For more information on how you can donate, contact Williams at 601-573-6014.
