Tree falls on SUV on Natchez Trace

Posted: Updated:
MADISON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

There were terrifying moments for one driver on the Natchez Trace Parkway when a tree fell onto her vehicle in northern Madison county. The large pine tree crushed the front end of her white Saturn SUV Monday.

The ranger on scene only said the woman was not injured.

The tree uprooted and fell on the roadway around 2:45 p.m. It happened just before mile marker 116.

The unidentified woman was not on scene when our camera shot video of the wrecked vehicle.

Farther north, another giant pine tree blocked both lanes of the trace around 3:30 p.m. at mile marker 130. Motorists continued to drive around the tree.

The precipitation Monday further saturated an already wet ground making it easier for trees to topple along the trace. Creeks were also swollen along the parkway.

Fortunately there was no ice or freezing rain along the trace in northern Madison county.
