JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson Police are searching for the suspect responsible for shooting a man Saturday near the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., parade in Jackson.

Jackson Police Deputy Chief Eric Wall says a 23-year-old man was shot in the right side of the chest.

From the initial investigation, Chief Wall said it appeared the shooting happened on Detroit Street.

After the victim was shot, he ran from Detroit Street, south onto Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. He then collapsed at the intersection of MLK Drive and Grandberry Street.

Police found a weapon they believe was used in the shooting.

The unidentified victim is listed in stable condition at UMC.

Investigators say the shooting does not appear random.

One person was questioned by police, but no arrest has been made.

The shooting occurred just a block away from the MLK Parade route.
