Gun owners rally at Capitol to protect rights

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Gun owners rallied at the Capitol Saturday to send a message against gun control.

Hundreds gathered as a part of "Gun Appreciation Day".

Various groups of conservative gun owners said they are speaking out to protect their Second Amendment right to bear arms.

Among them was Governor Phil Bryant who told the crowd that he is doing all he can to resist any unconstitutional gun control executive orders from the president.

"This is all about freedom for the second amendment. Those of us that are out here today just wanted to send a message to Washington D. C. and to people across this nation that we understand our civil liberties, our rights to keep and bear arms and this is a celebration of those freedoms," said Governor Bryant.

The governor said lawmakers will soon craft legislation to place police officers and sheriff's deputies in Mississippi schools to prevent tragedies like those in Pearl and Connecticut.
