Pro-life candlelight vigil held at the state capitol

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

350 pro-life supporters held a candlelight vigil on the steps of the state capitol Saturday night.

A prayer service was held inside the rotunda before going outside.

Pro-Life Mississippi hosted the 26th annual event.

A number of supporters expressed concern over the future of the state's only abortion clinic in Jackson.

They say there are a number of pregnancy crisis clinics and alternatives for expecting mothers.

"We counsel them and many of them can make it. It's hard and the others, we help them. We help them with finances and resources and we encourage them. Also parenting skills," said Pro-Life Mississippi President Dana Chisholm.

Pro-life supporters hope lawmakers will develop new laws to make abortion more difficult in the state.

The vigil also comes before Tuesday's 40th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision.
