February trial set in Warren County man's beating death

Two Jackson men accused in the beating death of a Warren County man at a job site in Jackson are scheduled to be tried Feb. 11 in Hinds County.

The Vicksburg Post reports that Jontez Garvis, 30, and David De'Undra Thomas, 26, are each charged with capital murder.

Authorities say Fred Jackson, 61, was beaten on Jan. 29, 2011, while he worked at a salvage yard in north Jackson. He died 41 days later at a Jackson hospital.

Garvis and Thomas were initially charged with aggravated assault and robbery. Prosecutors say charges were upgraded after Jackson die. The men are being held without bond in the Hinds County jail.

Prosecutors say a cell phone, $500 and a payroll check were reportedly stolen during the attack.
