Stop violence rally hopes to reach youth

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An event Sunday afternoon targeted at Jackson youth hoped to spread the message of peace in the face of conflict.

A Stop the Violence Concert and Rally were held at Golf World Event Center on North State Street.

Participants held hands in a prayer circle before the start of the activities designed to give young people positive alternatives to violence.

Students from Walton Elementary School also participated.

There was free entertainment, motivational speakers talked about bullying and the consequences of crime and other family activities.

"We hope that everyone will think before they act versus picking up a gun or using their hands to harm someone. Seeing someone in the funeral home is not a good thing, and it's not a great thing for kids to lose a parent, a sibling or loved one," said event organizer Pam Greer.

This is the seventh event organizers have held.
