RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An accident on Interstate 20 in Rankin County that delayed westbound traffic for several hours Monday afternoon, has taken the life of a Lexington man.

According to Cpl. Odis Easterling with Mississippi Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred at 1:26 p.m. on I-20 near the Pearl River.

Easterling says a 2000 silver Mitsubishi Mirage, driven by Corthians Dixon, 23, of Lexington, was traveling south on I-55 at I-20 west and collided with a white Ford F-150. Dixon lost control, collided with a guard rail and then a white Chevrolet Suburban.

Dixon was transported to UMC, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries, reports Easterling. Dixon was not wearing a seatbelt. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.

No other injuries were reported in this crash, and officials have not released a cause of the wreck.
