MADISON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Dollar Tree robbery that landed the two culprits just over $3,000, will now cost the get-a-way driver more than three decades behind bars.

On May 16 of last year, police say Lyndon Myers, along with his co-defendant Earnest Johnson, robbed three employees of a Dollar Tree in Madison. As the store workers were closing for the night, Johnson approached the employees wielding a pistol. Johnson forced the three victims to put all store money into a plastic bag while holding them at gunpoint. He also made the employees duct tape each other.

Madison and Rankin Counties' District Attorney Michael Guest reports that Myers is required to serve 35 years of his 45 year sentence with the possibility of parole or early release. The last ten years of his sentence was suspended.

The sentence came after a jury found Myers guilty of three counts of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon following his trial in November. Myers was on probation for sale of controlled substance at the time of the robbery.

The District Attorney says that while Johnson was the gunman in the plot, Myers was waiting in the Dollar Tree parking lot in a red Pontiac Grand Prix, waiting to make a get-a-way. One of the victims was able to free herself and called 911 to report the crime. The employees were able to give a description of the suspect and the vehicle to police.

Madison Police Department dispatched the information related to the car's description to all surrounding law enforcement agencies.

Madison County deputies conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 55 for a vehicle matching that of the suspect. Myers and Johnson were arrested when officers stopped their vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a Dollar Tree plastic bag with approximately $3,118 in cash and the pistol used by Johnson.
