The Mississippi House and Senate have filed separate Charter School bills. It seems inevitable that a Charter School bill will pass this legislative session and be signed into law by the governor.
The main question now is in what school districts charter schools will be allowed. If a school district is performing at a high level then I see no need for charter schools, but if a school district is failing or is low performing then students deserve a better option.
Charter schools will not solve all of Mississippi's education problems, but we just can't continue to pour good money after bad into failing school districts.
Doing nothing is not an option.
