Hearing loss might indicate memory decline

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A new study from Johns Hopkins University finds older adults with hearing loss have an increased risk for memory problems.

The study of nearly 2-thousand men and women over age 75 found those with hearing loss experienced a thirty to forty percent faster decline in cognitive skills, when compared to those with normal hearing.

The researchers say not being able to hear may force the brain to devote too much time to restoring hearing, rather than spending energy on memory and thinking.
