PEER: On child support privatization

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A recent PEER report takes a close look at child support enforcement services through privatization.

The government watchdog agency analyzed the potential for saving the state dollars and improving services at the Mississippi Department of Human Services.

The report suggests that in order to maximize the potential for success, the division of child support services should collect proper data and improve reporting about privatization.

The reports says it would cost MDHS about $2.9 million dollars more a year to privatize it's disbursement unit.

Last year the Governor said more than $305 million in child support payments were outstanding.
