Foods most likely to cause infections

Posted: Updated:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is releasing its latest figures on foodborne disease outbreaks.

During 2009 and 2010, health department officials reported roughly 1,500 foodborne disease outbreaks across the country.

They resulted in over 29,000 illnesses, nearly 1,200 hospitalizations and 23 deaths.

The most common food illness was caused by salmonella mostly in eggs, sprouts and vine-grown vegetables like tomatoes and peppers.
