The "Best of Jackson" recognized

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A wide variety of the capital city's most popular businesses and people were recognized Sunday evening.

The 11th annual "Best of Jackson" was a party to celebrate a diverse city, with a unique twist.

"Night Circus" was this year's theme at the Jackson Free Press event inside the MetroCenter Mall.

From dentists to DJ's, even restaurants were recognized.

JFP says the event celebrates what is good about Jackson.

"(It is an) unbelievably diverse party...ages, races, backgrounds, everything and political association. I mean, it's everything. It says that we can get together and we can be proud of our city and we can do creative things and we can work hard," said Jackson Free Press Editor Donna Ladd.

There are about 150 categories in the "Best of Jackson" contest.

"Best TV News Personality" was awarded to WLBT's Barbie Bassett.
