MADISON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Madison Police Department is investigating a string of auto burglaries that occurred over the weekend in a neighborhood just off of Highway 51.

Lieutenant Lawrence with MPD says eight car break-ins were reported by residents of the Cross Creek subdivision Sunday morning between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., although police believe the crimes were committed hours before. Lt. Lawrence says the auto burglaries likely took place between 1:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. when the property owners would have been asleep.

The burglaries were reported from neighbors on Woodland Brook Drive, Cross Creek Drive, Laurel Glen Court, and Oakmont Drive. The thieves took items of value and cash from the vehicles they burglarized, although, Lt. Lawrence confirms, only three of the eight victims reported that anything had actually been taken. The other victims relayed that their vehicle had been broken into, but nothing was stolen.

Lt. Lawrence says as of now they have not identified any suspects, but ask that anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the neighborhood during the overnight hours Sunday should call police at 601-856-6111.
