Cities are very competitive when it comes to recruiting new businesses. That is why it is strange when Jackson State University signs a 10 year lease in Madison for an offsite campus and the mayor of Madison doesn't welcome their business.
The JSU campus will bring jobs and a positive economic impact to the City of Madison. Mayor Mary Butler Hawkins and Tulane University want the IHL to rescind approval of the JSU Madison campus.
Tulane located their Madison offsite campus in 2010 and understandably they want to limit the competition. I am sure that Jackson State, Miss College, Millsaps and Belhaven probably weren't too happy when Tulane located in Madison. So it's only fair that our local colleges are afforded that same opportunity.
