(WMC-TV) - A local dog owner is hoping someone knows who shot his dog through a fence for no apparent reason.
Evy was one of three dogs adopted by the owners and workers of Joe Cooper Auto Sales on Elvis Presley Boulevard. When they showed up to work, they found Evy had been shot and killed. The entire incident was captured on surveillance video.
"Mr. Charlie gets here first. When I got in, he said, 'Sam, Evy's dead'. I said, 'What do you mean she's dead?' He said, 'Someone shot her,'" said Samuel Cooper.
The shooting happened on Tuesday, January 22, after the shop closed down for the day.
"A man just walking down the road and he turns towards the dog and for no apparent reason, just shoots," Cooper described the scene caught on video.
He says Evy was inside the fence of the business at the time of the shooting. Even if she may have been barking, he sees no reason why someone would shoot her.
Cooper says she was special to all the workers on the lot.
"Out of the three we have, she was the first one rescued. So she kind of started it all and really raised these other two," he explained.
Elvis and Lucky, who survived the shooting, followed the man along the fence after Evy was shot.
Cooper says the dogs have not been quite the same since.
"Really, we're worried about the guy with the gun. The dog is a sad deal, but you never know what the guy with the gun is going to do," said Cooper.
The shooting was reported to police.
"Our hope is that they catch the guy that did it so he can go to jail and pay for what he did," said Cooper.
If you have any information that can lead to an arrest, you are asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
