Flu claims first MS child since 2009-2010 season

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Mississippi State Department of Health confirmed the first pediatric influenza death since the 2009-2010 H1N1 influenza pandemic flu season.

The north Mississippi child had chronic underlying health conditions, according to the department of health. The child's exact age hasn't been released.

A total of 11 deaths of Mississippians 18 years old and younger have been recorded since 2007.

The seasonal flu vaccine is recommended for anyone 6 months old or older. Vaccinations are available at all county health departments.
