State health officials are reporting the first pediatric flu death in Mississippi.

The death occurred in north Mississippi in a child with underlying health conditions.

This is the 11th pediatric flu death in Mississippi since 2007, when pediatric deaths became reportable.

Meanwhile, the CDC reports flu activity is down in Mississippi and other southeastern states.

Flu is now listed as regional.

However, activity remains widespread in most of the country.

Federal health officials say nationwide, flu has claimed the lives of 47 children this flu season.
