Teen arrested on child abuse charges

CARTERSVILLE, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Cartersville police have arrested a teenager and charged him with child abuse in connection to the injuries of an infant.

On Jan. 30, a 6-week-old infant was taken to the emergency room at Cartersville Medical Center with a knot on her head, according to police. Further examination revealed that the infant also had broken ribs, a fractured skull, a broken left tubular, and a broken left femur.

Detectives arrested Dustin Michael Lewis, 18, of Cartersville after they interviewed several individuals, including Lewis. He was charged with cruelty to children and aggravated battery and taken to the Bartow County Jail.

The infant was placed in state custody. The case continues to be under investigation.
