It was a deadly weekend on I-55 south where, Sunday, a two vehicle crash claimed the life of a Pearl man.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Corporal Odis Easterling says the fatal crash occurred around 1:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon in Copiah County.

Investigators say 24-year-old John Horton Jr. was ejected and died at the scene. He was the passenger in a white Dodge pick up driven by 26-year-old Jervancy Johnson of Jackson.

Johnson was also ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to University of Mississippi Medical Center. According to troopers, the Dodge truck struck the back of a black Lincoln Town car driven by James Beavers of Florence.

The pickup then ran off the roadway, overturned and hit a tree.

No one inside the town car was injured. The investigation is ongoing.
