MEMPHIS, TN - -

(WMC-TV) - A child was found wandering in the streets of Memphis over the weekend. Monday, the 5-year-old's mother and mother's boyfriend appeared in court.

The police report is bringing new details about the incident to light.

According to documents, the 5-year-old found herself locked out of a home before sunrise. As she walked to a gas station about a half of a mile away, a concerned passerby stopped to check on her.

Investigators say the girl's mother, Jocelyn Temple, and her boyfriend, Keith Miller, went to a friend's birthday party Friday night. They returned home around 3 a.m. and say two other kids got out of the car, went inside, and fell asleep. They forgot about the 5-year-old girl, who was still asleep in the car.

The child said she tried to get into the house after waking up alone in the car, but all of the doors were locked.

When she tried to get back into the car, those doors had locked, too. She decided to walk to her grandparents house.

She was spotted around 4:30 a.m. by a passerby, who then called police.

The little girl and her brothers are now in the custody of their grandparents.
