Dogs in north Jackson attack to be put down

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Cory Kelly says he and one of his friends ran when two dogs, one a pit bull, started charging at them in a north Jackson neighborhood Monday afternoon. They made it about 100 yards before they looked back and saw a third friend in a ditch with the pit bull on top of him.

"I heard him screaming. I knew they were biting him pretty bad. I came back with a stick and started swinging the stick, they just left him alone," Kelly said.

Kelly says the victim, a man in his 30s, was bitten in the hand, back and ankle and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The owner of the dogs says the dogs escaped from a fenced area on Woodbury Road because a gate wasn't closed properly. The owner said she was sorry for what happened and voluntarily turned the dogs over to animal control officers to be put down.
