RICHLAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A surveillance camera captured incredible video of a violent crash Wednesday night on Highway 49.

The video from the camera at Clinton Body Shop at McBride Street in Richland shows an 18-wheeler swerving to avoid a pickup truck that was turning onto northbound Highway 49. The 18-wheeler slammed into a utility pole and brought down the traffic signals around 9:30 p.m.

Richland police say the driver of the 18-wheeler, 47-year-old Elbert Powell of Tchula, was treated and released from the hospital. The driver of the pickup truck wasn't cited.

When Skycopter flew over the area around 7:45 Thursday morning, traffic was backed up for miles on Highway 49. The traffic signals were repaired by 1 p.m. Thursday, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
